In the latest Getting to Know blog post, we’re chatting with Sarah Durack, a local naturopath and mum of two. Sarah tells us more about her life before having children why she decided to start her own business.

Hi, Sarah. Could you please tell us a bit about yourself?

My husband John and I have two gorgeous little girls and have lived in the area for 5 years. I’m originally a north of the river girl so, whilst I miss my beloved beaches, I love the river and the wildlife and nature that it brings. Before becoming a naturopath I worked as an exercise physiologist. Suffice to say, I’m very passionate about health and movement!

What inspired you to create Sarah Durack Naturopathy and start offering your services to local clients?

My business started by chance really! I’d worked in the same busy practice for 17 years and loved it. Towards the end of my maternity leave I had clients contacting me asking when I was back. As I didn’t have a set date, I started seeing people from home and via Telehealth and have never looked back! The convenience of a home practice is fantastic and allows great flexibility for me and my clients.

Who are your main clients?

Mums of all ages and stages! Fatigue, hormone fluctuations, stress, poor sleep and weight gain are some of the common problems I see. Many mum’s accept this as the norm, but it absolutely doesn’t have to be this way. Whilst you can’t always change external factors, you can greatly and positively influence your body’s response to them.

What do you love most about what you do?

My work doesn’t feel like work as I’m so interested in and passionate about natural therapies. I love watching the transformation in people’s lives as they regain their health and vitality.

What are some of your favourite places or things to do in the local area?

You can’t beat an evening walk and picnic along the many beautiful stretches of river. The cafes dotted through the area are lovely for catch ups and Tunes for Tots on a Wednesday at Pt Walter is always a hit!

Do you have any advice for mums looking to start their own business?

If you love what you’re selling go for it! Start slowly if you can and work it around family life so you enjoy the time you spend working.
