Love Where You Live – Applecross

Applecross is one of our favourite riverside suburbs in Perth and is the only suburb in the pocket bounded by Canning Highway and the Swan River.

The name Applecross comes from the Applecross Peninsula on the northwest coast of Scotland, and the Scottish influence can be seen through many of the local street names such as Ullapool Rd, Ardross St and Duncraig Rd, just to name a few. On the topic of streets, many streets in the suburb are lined with beautiful Jacaranda trees which gave rise to Applecross’s annual Rotary Jacaranda Festival held on the fourth Saturday in November. This family-friendly day is well supported by local businesses and always has a unique line-up of entertainers and boutique stalls featuring the best of the local offerings. It truly is a fun day for all of the family.

Applecross is a fashionista and food lover’s delight. You’ll enjoy many boutique clothes stores and coffee shops located at the Applecross Village on Ardross Street. The suburb is also home to the South of Perth Yacht Club, Applecross Tennis Club, Applecross Football Club, Waylen Bay Sea Scout Group, many parks and reserves spanning the Swan River foreshore and let’s not forget the popular kitesurfing and windsurfing opportunities along Melville Beach Parade.

One park which is a favourite for kids is Goolugatup Heathcote on Duncraig Road. This has one of the first few ‘super playgrounds’ around town after it was extensively renovated in 2017. The playground features a huge pirate ship where kids can let their imaginations run wild! Facilities around the playground include toilets, drinking fountains, a number of BBQ pits, plenty of grass/benches for picnics and birthday parties plus panoramic views across the Swan River. There is also an onsite restaurant with adjacent takeaway food kiosk, and there’s plenty of parking available.

Applecross is characterised by mostly high-end housing and is regularly promoted as one of Perth’s most affluent suburbs with the bonus of being only a 10-minute drive to the CBD and about 15 minutes into Fremantle. There is an overwhelming sense of suburban tranquility encapsulated by pristine tree-lined streets of beautiful million-dollar mansions and modern apartment blocks. We certainly love what Applecross has to offer, and it is a destination suburb for many.
